Connect Notion as a destination

Deliver each finding as a row in a Notion database, with its evidence. About five minutes.

Before you start

You need a page in Notion to hold the database of findings.

Open the screen

  1. On Destinations, select Add a destination under the topic.

  2. Select the Notion tile.

NoteWhen you sign in for the first time, the tiles are on the destination step. If Slack is already a source, you are offered that workspace first: select Choose somewhere else to see the tiles.

Allow access

  1. A connect dialog opens over the page. Select Connect in it. Notion's permission page opens in its own window. If a Notion workspace is already connected to echoUX, the page list opens instead; if more than one is connected, select the workspace first.

  2. Check that the right workspace is shown at the top of Notion's permission page. To change it, select it there. Then select the page or pages to share with echoUX. Only a page shared with echoUX can be chosen in the next step.

  3. Select Allow access.

Choose the page

  1. Under Parent page, select the page from the list. A long list has a Find a page box above it that filters the pages by name.

NoteWhen no page is shared yet, the screen says so instead of the list. Share a page with echoUX in Notion, then select Re-check.
  1. Under Database name, keep echoUX artefacts or type the name you want the database to have.

  2. Select Save destination. The database is created under the page when you save, with a column for each part of a finding.

Check it arrives

  1. Under Destination saved, select Test delivery. The test row is a sample finding titled "Sample artefact, safe to delete". Delivered appears beside the button when Notion accepted it.

  2. Select Done (when you sign in for the first time, Continue).

Connecting Notion is complete when

  • in Notion, the database is under the page and holds the sample row;
  • on Destinations, the topic lists Notion with the database name.

What happens next

For a new topic, deliveries begin when its first cycle produces a finding, usually between several weeks and two months after collection starts. A destination added to a topic that already has findings receives the latest cycle's findings soon after the save. Each finding arrives as one row: its title, type, theme, scores and each of its parts in their own columns. Inside the row, Evidence, with the number of quotes in its name, holds the quotes; Grounding holds what the finding does not cover; Why these scores holds the reason for each score. A finding refined in a later cycle arrives as a new row, and its Supersedes column points to the earlier row. There is nothing to do while you wait.
